G'day! Miranda Kerr poses as Wonder Woman for a special magazine

She is considered something of an icon among her fellow Australians and is worthy of heroine status as she juggles a busy career with a successful marriage and motherhood.

So it was only fitting that Miranda Kerr should transform into Wonder Woman, as someone more than worthy of the title.

The supermodel turned superhero for a magazine shoot for a special collectors' edition of Grazia Australia magazine to celebrate Australia Day this Thursday.

But can she leap tall buildings in a single bound? Miranda Kerr poses as Wonder Woman for a special magazine shoot in her native Australia

And the 28-year-old looked sensational in her Wonder Woman outfit, that, in true catwalk style, had a twist to the traditional look.

Her lovely long limbs seemed to go on forever in the red and blue strapless leotard, that was custom made for Miranda by Australian fashion designer Alex Perry.

Miranda teamed the leotard with a gold headband with a red star motif and gold cuffs, just like the DC Comics heroine.

But instead of red lace-up boots, Miranda opted for blue suede towering heels which elongated her already long legs.

Miranda also patriotically held an Australian flag high above her head which had been made into a cape by Perry.

The Victoria's Secret model was styled by the magazine's fashion director Thelma McQuillan, who said she was glad that she had controversially pushed the boundaries for the shoot.

She said: 'We�re a fashion magazine - and this is art. We�re taking a risk - because Wonder Woman is a globally recognised icon and not just anyone could pull it off.

'But Miranda is an Australian icon herself. She�s the star who, time and time again, our readers say they most admire; a businesswoman, a wife, a mum. She is our wonder woman. And she has the presence to pull this recreation off.'

Thelma added that Miranda wasn't shown what she would be wearing for the shoot until on the day and said: 'I was excited about it, but I hadn�t previously told Miranda about the outfit, so I wasn�t sure what she�d think.

'But she took one look at it and broke into a big smile. It�s my favourite shoot yet.'

There is also a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot in which Miranda talks about Australian fashion designers and talks about her childhood Australia Day traditions including building rafts to float down the river.
